Following a career spanning over 45 years in London and New York, Walter Gubert retired in June 2020 as Vice Chairman of JP Morgan Chase and Chairman of Europe, Middle East and Africa

Walter joined JP Morgan in 1973 and became one of the key architects in the bank’s transformation into investment banking. During his tenure, he established the bank’s capital markets business initially in the US, and then Europe. Walter was also responsible for building JP Morgan’s international M&A business in the early 1990s

In the mid-1990s, he was named Chief Executive Officer for the bank’s global investment banking business

Walter was appointed to JP Morgan’s Board in 1998, and in that capacity led the negotiations for the merger with Chase Manhattan Bank in 2000

Law degree from the University of Florence, Italy and an MBA from INSEAD Business School
